DIY Fern Stamped Wrapping Paper_Mottes Blog (1)

I’ve always loved the look of packages wrapped in brown paper, and it makes a great jumping-off point for lots of creative DIY gift wrap ideas. It’s the perfect time of year for this particular idea from Germany-based blogger Motte, who used a basic printmaking technique to make paper with a nature-inspire motif! The delicate fern leaves make a beautiful, intricate pattern when repeated. You can also experiment with other kinds of leaves. (Just watch out for poison ivy!) [how to make fern stamped wrapping paper]

Wood Slice Watermelon Coasters

Watermelons are one of our favorite summer motifs! So it’s not surprising that we love these watermelon coasters by Jessica at Young At Heart Mommy, who painted the design onto slices of wood. If you have a tree branch and a saw, you can make your own slices, or you can find them fairly inexpensively at most craft stores or online. You can even use this basic idea to create other fruits, like citrus slices. Be sure to check out Jessica’s post for some great tips on painting the watermelon seeds! [how to make wood slice watermelon coasters]

Project estimate:

  • Wood slices, free or about $3 and up
  • Paint, on hand or $1 and up
  • Glitter (optional), on hand or $1 and up
