Give your shoes a temporary kitty makeover! Heather used electrical tape to make adorable cat faces on the toes of a pair of plain flats to dress them up. This is a great way to add a little bit of fun to your outfit, while still leaving your favorite flats wearable for other occasions. When you’re done, simply peel off the tape and the shoes go back to their original state.

Project estimate:

• Shoes, on hand or $1 and up
• Electrical tape, on hand or $1

Total:  $1 and up

Apply strips of tape to cover the toes of the shoes. Cut little slits in the edge of tape to make it go on more smoothly over the curved surface.

Cut and apply two triangles for the ears.

Cut facial features out of colored tape and add them to the shoes.

Don’t forget to add pupils to the eyes!

Once the faces are complete, just add feet!

Heather’s favorite eye shadow isn’t a standard powder; instead, it comes in the form of a balm-like stick. Curious if she could recreate this type of product herself, she tried this fun experiment with dollar store lip balm and eye shadow!

The results came out colorful but a tiny bit sticky, an issue that could easily be resolved with a dusting of translucent powder. You could also do the same thing with blush!

Project estimate:

• Lip balm, $1
• Eye shadow, $1
• Glass measuring cup, on hand

Total: $2

Roll the lip balms all the way up and put the contents in a glass measuring cup.

Roll the empty tubes all the way back down.

Scrape the eye shadow out of the tray it comes in and add it to the lip balm.  The more eye shadow you add, the more intense the color of your finished balm will be.

Pop the measuring cup in a microwave to melt the lip balm.  Microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring in between, until the lip balm is completely melted.  It should take about 2 to 3 minutes.

Stir well, then pour the melted balm back into the empty containers.

Let it sit about 10 minutes to cool and it’s ready to use!

There are a zillion ways you can dress up the humble t-shirt.  One of our favorites is this super easy method of making dandelions – no special artistic skills required!  Check out Heather’s video to see how it’s done, or keep scrolling to read more.

Project estimate:

• T-shirt, on hand or $1 and up
• Shower pouf, $1
• Fabric paint, on hand or $1 and up

Total: $1 and up

Pour some white paint onto a paper plate or other surface.

Dip the shower pouf into the paint and dab off the excess on the edge of the plate or on a piece of paper.

Press the pouf onto the shirt to create a dandelion shape.  Repeat as desired.

Use green paint to make a stem on each dandelion.

Let the paint dry and your shirt is ready to wear!

Who’s the fairest of them all? YOU are, with this pretty Disney Princess duct tape hand mirror! Transform a boring dollar store hand mirror into a magical mirror fit for a princess, with just a few simple supplies and techniques. Come find out how to make it!

My family and I are getting ready to go on a dream vacation to Walt Disney World in Florida, to attend the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration, and also to have a family vacation. Visiting WDW is a first-time for everyone in my family (the kids have never been to any Disney parks). To celebrate, some of my crafty blogger friends (who are also attending the conference) and I are sharing some Disney-themed craft tutorials with you. For my project, I created this cute and simple duct tape craft, featuring a very pretty printed tape from Duck Brand with Disney Princesses on it!

I recently visited the duct tape aisle at Michaels — big mistake! Or maybe big inspiration – you decide. Check out all the awesome duct tapes I came home with:

I just knew I had to come up with something great to make with the Disney Princesses Duck Tape.  

Disney Princess Duct Tape Hand Mirror Supplies:

• Hand mirror, $1
• Patterned duct tape, $9 (you can get it on Amazon or buy it at Michaels using your coupons!)
• Scissors, on hand
• Ribbon (optional), $1 and up

Total cost: $10 and up (but you will have lots of pretty Princess duct tape left over for other duct tape projects!)

NOTE: You could make this project for $2 if you use dollar store patterned duct tape, or $1 if you use duct tape you already have on hand!

Gather your supplies! This project is quick and easy. It will take you about 15 minutes to make.

1. Cover the back of the mirror with overlapping strips of duct tape. Since the Disney Princess Duck Tape is a continuous pattern, you can match up the pattern if you want. Leave about 1″ overlapping duct tape around the sides.

2. Trim the tape around the mirror so the duct tape is an even distance around the outside of the mirror.

3. Cover the front of the mirror handle with duct tape.

4. Cut slits into the duct tape around every curved area (I just cut slits into the whole thing, about 1″ apart from each other).

5. Gently wrap the duct tape tabs you cut around the edges of the mirror, smoothing to eliminate creases, wrinkles, and bubbles.

This is what the back of the mirror looks like — as you can see, I matched up the pattern for most of the mirror.

Next, we are going to make the fringe that goes around the front of the mirror. This is a simple decorative duct tape technique!

1. First, cut a strip of duct tape and fold it lengthwise (long way), leaving about 1/2″ of the sticky part exposed.

2. Cut slits into the duct tape on the folded side. Cut up to the edge of where you folded, but leave the sticky part of the tape intact.

3. Using the sticky part of the fringe, apply the fringe to the edge of the mirror. Because of the fringing technique, these pieces have a bit of give, so they go around the curved mirror pretty easily.

If you don’t have enough fringe, cut another piece and repeat the fringe-making process. You can just overlap a little at the edges of the fringe when you are applying a second piece.

To finish the princessy look of the hand mirror, I added a piece of ribbon (it has Olaf on it – I know he’s not a princess, but he does enjoy warm hugs!). My son gave me this Olaf ribbon for Christmas, so I’m glad I got to use it in a place of honor on a special craft project.

Looking for an easy way to make personalized art?  Try making a yarn-wrapped name!  This project is especially great for folks with uncommon names, who may find it difficult (or even impossible) to locate store-bought items bearing their moniker.  Heather used a fun tool called a Loopdedoo to make this project even easier, though it isn’t necessary.  (But once you watch the video, you will want one!)

Project estimate:

• Pipe cleaners, on hand or $1
• Yarn, on hand or $1 and up

Total: Free and up!

Wrap a pipe cleaner with yarn, starting at one end and working to the other, until the entire thing is covered.  Depending on the length of the name or other word you want to spell out, you may need multiple pipe cleaners.

Bend the pipe cleaners into cursive-style letters.  Twist any loops to keep them secure.

When you reach the end of a pipe cleaner, twist it together with the end of another pipe cleaner.

Use additional yarn to wrap around any pipe cleaner ends that are showing.

I bet when you see a bag of plastic bugs at the dollar store, “pretty” isn’t one of the first words to come to mind.  That is, unless you are Heather!  She elevated a plastic bee with a sparkly makeover, turning it into a trendy necklace.  After you watch this video, you will want to figure out what other ways you can turn blingy bugs into fabulous jewelry!

Project estimate:

• Plastic bugs, $1
• Nail polish, on hand or $1
• Glitter, on hand or $1
• Mod Podge, on hand
• Jump rings, on hand
• Chain, on hand or $1 and up

Total:  $1 and up

Paint the bee with nail polish.

Sprinkle glitter over the nail polish.

Paint over the glitter with Mod Podge and let dry.

Punch holes in the wings with a small hole punch.

Attach the bee to a chain using jump rings.
