We’re huge fans of Mark Montano around here.  (After all, he literally wrote the book on dollar store crafting.)  We’re also quite enthusiastic about quirky DIY chandeliers made from unusual items.  Items like…  a tomato cage!  With garden season winding down, the already inexpensive wire structures should be on clearance sales for even cheaper! The longer I blog, the more I am convinced that you can make a chandelier out of just about anything.  Here’s and idea I’ve never seen before:  Sarah from Sarah with an H needed something to snazz up a lounge-y porch area, so she assembled a simple light fixture using a hula hoop and icicle-style Christmas lights!  You could even use hula hoops in differedt sides nested together to make  multi-tier version of this project.  [how to make a hula hoop chandelier]

We’re big fans of the DIY beaded chandelier (as evidenced here, here, and here).  Here’s another take on the concept by Sarah at Lovely Home Life,whose design incorporates some nice details like the turquoise beads encircling the top edge.  I also like the casual feel of the draping, which gives the finished project an “I-don’t-take-myself-too-seriously” attitude; it eliminates any pretentiousness that might be implied by the very idea of a chandy!  [how to make a beaded chandelier]

Yes, pretty things can come from humble materials!  This chandelier by Jamie from The Letter 4 is a similar idea to a faux capiz shell chandelier in its use of wax paper circles, but it has a playful, colorful twist:  crayon shavings!  It’s the perfect addition to a nursery or child’s room, and they can even help by sharpening their crayons.  This reminds me of “stained glass” art that I used to make with wax paper and crayon shavings when I was a kid, and it was always one of my favorite activities!  [how to make a wax paper and crayon chandelier][via Dollar Store Mom]

Over at Condo Blues, Lisa created a fun chandelier out of 15 stemmed glasses, inspired by a high-end designer chandelier. Not only did she create this chandelier project, but she made it sound darn easy. I am tempted to try to make one of these, but since I have three young sons, I’m thinking I should wait a few years on this project. This project will cost you a bit of cash, but just think of all the money you will save compared to the $6000 inspiration piece! [how to make a glassware chandelier]

You can find stemmed glassware at your dollar store or thrift store, or round up some unused pieces from your china cabinet. You’ll enjoy them a lot more as a chandelier!

No haunted house is complete without a spooky chandelier, right?  Just in time for Halloween decorating, Miya of Jellyfish Jelly dug around in her recycling bin and came up with all of the components she needed to make one out of cardboard!  Her instructions include a printable template so you can reproduce it for yourself.  Make it even spookier by draping it with some cottony “spider webbing,” or give it a more colorful paint job and use it as decoration for parties of any kind.  [how to make a cardboard chandelier]
