Merry Christmas!  The good news is, you survived the crafty tornado that led up to today.  The bad news is, you only have a week until New Year’s!  Don’t panic though; there are plenty of great end-of-the-year projects out there that don’t take much time.  We love the look of this gilded lace stemware that is perfect for ringing in 2013, and we love the simplicity (and frugality) of the project even more!  Mandy at Fabric Paper Glue whipped them up in a jiffy with just a couple of inexpensive items.  If you can’t find gold doilies, you could also buy white doilies and apply a layer of gold paint to them before applying them to the glasses.  Cheers!  [how to make gilded lace stemware]

Project estimate:

  • Stemware, on hand or $1 and up
  • Gold paper doilies, $1 and up
  • Mod Podge, on hand

Total:  $1 and up

That Shannon over a Madigan Made, she’s such a clever one!  Inspired by some paper shades she’d seen for wine glass candle holders and the cone tree trend that’s been hot lately in blogland, she dug into her scrapbook paper collection and got busy.  The results are stunning!  You can whip these babies up in just a few minutes, and when it’s time to change them out for different decorations you can disassemble them in a matter of seconds.  Perhaps the best part is, you probably have everything you need to make them on hand already!  [how to make wine glass topiary trees]

Project estimate:

  • Scrapbook paper, on hand
  • Trimmings, on hand or $1 and up
  • Wine glass, on hand or $1

Do you entertain?  I often entertain the idea of entertaining, though it’s been quite a few years since the last time I actually threw a party.  Now that I’ve thought about it, I’m long overdue!  If you’re doing some summer entertaining, add this idea to your to-do list.  Sara from Creative Jewish Mom made these craft foam wine glass charms so that her guests would be easily able to identify their own glasses.  (Very handy a few glasses into the evening!)  If you’re hosting a larger party, you can write your guests’ names on the charms.  This way, they could also double as placecards!  [how to make easy craft foam wine glass charms]

Project estimate:

  • Craft foam, on hand or $1
  • Pencil, on hand
  • Cardboard, on hand
  • Scissors, on hand

Total:  Free or $1

I have to admit, I am totally ecstatic about how this project turned out!  You might even say I’m downright giddy.  I’m also super excited that I got the chance to share a tutorial for it at The CSI Project today under the theme of outdoor spaces!  I’ve been gathering the parts for this project since spring, from the first moment I saw the blue plastic stemware on the shelves at Dollar Tree.  I’m also working on how to mount solar lights inside of it so that it actually functions as a light.  Thanks  to the CSI gals for having me again!  [how to make a plastic stemware outdoor chandelier]

Project estimate:

  • 9  plastic wine glasses, $9
  • 6 plastic hurricane glasses, $6
  • 2 embroidery hoops, about $3
  • Poly rope, $1
  • Mardi gras beads, about $8
  • Rhinestones, about $8
  • Bungee cords, $1
  • Glue, on hand

 Total:  about $36

Nela from Cut, Nela, Cut added a photo of this amazing cut-paper tealight holder in the Dollar Store Crafts Flickr pool. Such intricate work, and so pretty! Nela’s work is all this impressive (or even more impressive), so check out her blog. You can make it out of cardstock, or how about using one of those take-out box containers to make a unique light? You could even use paper punches to simplify the paper-cutting process. (Sidenote: Check out Craftypod for an awesome article on getting tons of decorative patterns from just two craft punches. The technique probably won’t work for this particular project, but it’s so cool I wanted to share anyway.) [here’s a link to the tealight holder project]

Looks like you could use it as a shade for the Wine Glass Lamp.

If you want to save money and skip the take-out box, you can make the container yourself for an even cheaper project! Nela’s box used the free template from Stampin’ Mathilda that you can download here. This photo is of Stampin’ Mathilda’s original project, which is so pretty! I think this would make a great wedding table decoration, or other romantic party decoration. You can customize it pretty much any way you want, too, so I think it’s great inspiration for all kinds of adaptations.

Don’t forget to use a battery-operated tealight for these projects, since they’re paper! You don’t want a craftfail on your hands!

Project Estimate:

  • Take-out box, $1 (or paper, on hand)
  • Paper punch, on hand or $1
  • Battery-operated tealights, 2 for $1

Total: $.50 and up

Need an elegant, yet simple table decoration for a wedding reception, shower, or birthday party? Look no further than these sweet wine glass candle lamps by Save-On-Crafts via CasaSugar. The materials are simple, as is the process, but the results are fantastic, and will make a big impact on your special event. You can find wine glasses and tea lights (I would go with battery-operated tea lights just because of the paper shade) at the dollar store, and pick up some vellum at your favorite craft store (with your 40% off coupon, of course!) [click here for project instructions]

Project Estimate:

  • Vellum sheets, $2.99/10 sheets
  • Wine glass, $1
  • Battery-operated tea light, 2 for $1
  • Glue, on hand
  • Template, free PDF, on hand

Total: $1.79 per light
