Do you want to impress someone with a wonderful handmade gift, but you’re on a budget? Here’s the perfect solution: make a candy bouquet! Use dollar store candy and supplies to make an inexpensive, yet very impressive bouquet, made up of your gift recipient’s favorite sweet treats.

Tutorial: Candy Bouquet

Anyone can make a candy bouquet! It is a simple and clever craft, and looks so impressive once it’s done.

Project estimate:

  • Floral foam, $1
  • Glass container, on hand or $1
  • Assorted candy, $1.00 and up
  • Bamboo skewers, on hand or $1
  • Hot glue, on hand
  • Basket filler, $1

Totals: $3 and up

How to Make a Candy Bouquet Video Tutorial:

Read on for written instructions for how to make a candy bouquet:

Tutorial: Candy bouquet

  1. Cut the floral foam to fit the inside of the container.  Floral foam is very easy to cut. You can simply use a knife to slice to cut to the right size.

Tutorial: Candy Bouquet

2. After the foam is on place put basket filler on top.  You may chose to glue it in place.

3. This is the fun part!  Using the glue gun place a small amount of glue on the candy and place the skewer flat on the glue.

Cut skewers with utility scissors to make them different lengths — this makes a more pleasing bouquet!

4. Once it has cooled, arrange the candy skewers in the container.  Continue placing the candy in the container until you have the desired look. Trim skewers if necessary to give the bouquet a range of “flower” heights!

The wonderful thing about candy bouquets is they can be given to anyone.  They can be a birthday present, boss gift, husband gift, graduation gift (slip some gift cards in  between the candy), Mother’s Day (place flowers randomly around the candy), a treat for someone in the hospital, etc.  You name it!  Another great gift for someone with a flower allergy!  Wedding center piece?? You decide!

What do you think? Could you make a candy bouquet? (We think so! They are so easy and fun!)

Make a Fruit Bouquet

This post is sponsored by Dollar Tree. All opinions are my own.

Have you ever been in this situation? You want to host a kid’s party.  But the parents aren’t crazy about serving loads of sugar in the form of cake, cookies and other typical party treats.

No cake. No candy. No ice cream. No cookies. No ICE CREAM. Uh, now what?

I got help with this exact dilemma with Dollar Tree’s Value Seekers Club. This club offers free recipes and project ideas incorporating products from your favorite place and mine – Dollar Tree. Membership is free and you get new ideas every month. The projects are printable, so you can take them to the store when you shop. And you can adapt the projects to serve your own purposes.

If you aren’t already convinced, Dollar Store Crafts is giving away a $50 Dollar Tree gift card to one of our readers. You can enter simply by signing up for the Value Seeker’s Club.

Through the Value Seekers Club, I came across a project idea for using toothpicks to make food more interesting to kids. The idea is to cut up sandwich items or other treats into little squares and make kabobs out of them. Simple yet brilliant.

So I started with this –  a luscious bowl of fruit that is lovely yet does not exactly scream “Fun!”

fruit 2

And a box of these – a zillion toothpicks for a dollar.

fruit 3

And elevated my fruit into party food.

fruit 4

I used a small vase I had on hand. If you don’t have one, Dollar Tree has summery plastic goblets and tumblers available now. Or you can always use a trusty glass goblet.

fruit 5jpg

You can use any fruit. But for a similar bouquet, you’ll need one strawberry,  several cherries and grapes (or similar small fruit) and one round fruit like an orange or apple cut into segments.

fruit 3.5

Use a big chunk of watermelon as your “floral foam.”  Push it down into the glass or vase. Then spear fruit onto the toothpicks. Arrange everything symmetrically.

fruit 6

And now you have a party. Just don’t mention it’s healthy and nobody will know.

To enter the $50 gift card giveaway, please join the Value Seeker’s Club and then enter using Rafflecopter below. Then leave a comment saying which project from the club you want to try first.

Poor St. Patrick’s Day; it always seems to get overshadowed by Valentine’s Day and Easter.  (Although I will admit that I do have a weakness for candy-based holidays, which just might explain the phenomenon.)  Show St. Paddy’s some love by making a quick, simple bouquet of paper shamrocks.  Lila from Sweet and Lovely Crafts made hers using a free shamrock template that she found online (you can find the link on her blog), or you could also use shamrock paper punch, a stencil, or stickers.  [how to make a shamrock bouquet]

The dollar store has an entire aisle of faux flowers. I admit, these have stumped me. I am not much of a faux flowers person, so I just never buy them and never make anything with them. This idea, by Holiday Crafts and Creations, is a wedding kissing ball, or pomander. The pomanders shown in this photo are made with handmade paper daisies (awesome!), but the process of making all those paper flowers is way too fussy for me. Instead, I would buy faux flowers at the dollar store and use them to make wedding kissing balls inspired by these. Similar look, but a lot simpler. [click here to find instructions to make these paper flower pomanders]

Use these to decorate for your wedding, as pew decorations, or hanging from a ceiling, awning, or chuppah. You can also carry one as a bouquet (or have your bridesmaids carry them). They’d also make amazing decorations for parties or showers.

Project Estimate (Faux Flower Version):

  • 4” Styrofoam ball, $1
  • 12 brads (for one ball), $1 and up
  • Ribbon, on hand or $1
  • 3 faux flower branches (3 different types: small, medium, and large, in complementary colors), $3
  • 35 – 40 pearl head pins (for one ball): 6mm, $1
  • X-acto knife
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors

Total: $5 and up
