There are so many different ways to decorate for Halloween.  Some people prefer orange and black while others like a more non-traditional combination of purple and green.  Some people like cute decorations, while others want their house to look like the set of a horror movie.  Personally, I am a skeletons-for-Halloween kind of girl; most of my decorations incorporate a boney theme.  If you are a fellow skeleton lover, you will love this idea!  Taryn from Formal Fringe whipped up these spooky skeleton hands using gloves and a Sharpie, creating easy creep factor for her holiday decor.   I think I might make a set of these to line the window sill in my front room to creep out trick-or-treaters!  [how to make spooky skeleton hands]

Project estimate:

  • Latex gloves, $1
  • Sharpie, on hand
  • Glass jars, on hand
  • Batter-operated tea lights, on hand or $1

Total:  $1 and up

If you’re putting away your holiday decorations already, you might need a cute little something to put out to help you enjoy the rest of the winter. This framed snowman family from Child Made is so cute, and easy enough for anyone to recreate. And of course, you can personalize it for your own family (including pets, if you like!).  This would make a fun gift or a good project for kids to make. [how to make a snowman family picture]

I so love this simple and brilliant idea by my friend Marie at the Craftzine blog. Since it’s still cold outside, your dollar store (and every other store on the planet, pretty much) will probably have these magic stretch gloves, so pick up a few pairs to make a fun Velcro catch game. Kids of all ages will enjoy this game, and it looks like it would be a great way to expend some energy when it’s too icky to go outside. Marie just came up with another twist on the game, too, using a hat to catch the ball with. [click here for Velcro Catch Ball how-to]

If you can’t find the round self-stick Velcro at the dollar store, try cutting your own circles and gluing them on. You can also use diaper tabs from disposable diapers in place of Velcro.

Project Estimate:

  • Magic knit gloves (or hat), $1
  • Wiffle balls, $1
  • Round self-stick Velcro, $1 and up

Total: $3

  • Fleece scarf or old fabric, $1 or on hand
