Are you ready to celebrate the holiday weekend?  (I know, I’m not prepared either!)  If your ever-lurking to-do list includes making a sweet treat, try these firecracker-style patriotic marshmallow pops by Jill at Kitchen Fun with My Three Sons.  The design is super-simple to put together so little hands can easily assist.  If you pressed the bottoms of the finished pops into a foam base, you could also turn these pops into a great centerpiece for your dessert table!  [how to make patriotic marshmallow pops]

Do you decorate for every holiday?  I find that some holidays I tend to skip over or do a little less for than others.  The 4th of July is one of those holidays that gets left behind when it comes to prettying up my house.  If I do make anything for Independence Day decorations, it will be something fabulously easy, like these paper stars by Rose and Heather of Sew Stylish Boutique. They look really complicated, but making them only requires a few easy cuts and a little bit of glue.  You will be amazed at how easy they actually are!  [how to make patriotic paper stars]

Project estimate:

  • Paper, on hand
  • Scissors, on hand
  • Glue, on hand
  • Ribbon, on hand

Total:  Free

Sometimes the best ideas are the really simple ones.  I especially feel this way about holiday projects because holidays are sneaky.  They always creep up on me when I’m not looking and it never feels like I’m prepared for them!  If you find yourself caught off guard by the Fourth of July this year (it’s in its way!) and need something festive to wear at your barbecue party or to give as a hostess gift, check out this easy tutorial by Susan from Living With Punks at Momtastic.  She used a pair of Dollar Tree dish towels cleverly pieced together to make a cute gingham-patterned flag apron!  [how to make a patriotic dish towel apron]

Project estimate:

  • Dish towels, $2
  • Ribbon, on hand or $1 and up
  • Sewing machine, on hand
