DIY Pool Noodle Wreath Form - There are a million ways to make a wreath, and one of our favorites methods uses a pool noodle as an inexpensive wreath form.

There are a million ways to make a wreath, and one of our favorites methods uses a pool noodle as an inexpensive wreath form.  Dollar Tree has started getting spring and summer seasonal items in stock, so it’s the perfect time to stock up on noodles for all of your wreath making needs!  This wreath won’t warp or melt when using hot glue.

Project estimate:

  • Pool noodle, $1
  • Wire hanger, on hand
  • Packing tape, on hand or $1

Total:  $1 and up

image

Straighten the coat hanger except for the top. With pliers, bend it together to form a hook. Bend the other end to form a small U shape.  Measure the pool noodle to the end of the hanger and cut it.

Bend the pool noodle to form a circle. IT WILL NOT MEET at the ends. Hook the U part of the hanger to the hook.

Cut several small pieces of the left over pool noodle and add them to the wreath. The last piece will be in the shape of a V.

Take the packing tape and wrap it completely around the wreath. This will keep the smaller pieces together and keep the pool noodle from melting when you apply hot glue.

Tutorial: Scarf or Belt Closet Hanger

I love scarves.  It’s a crazy obsession of mine.  My poor husband has to deal with them hanging on everything in the closet, tucked in every hole and all over the floor.  I needed to come up with a plan to clean them up before he started tossing them out.  I was at the Dollar Store and found wall racks, but  I don’t have a ton of wall space in my closet.  So I paired with a clothes hanger it became a very practical tool for hanging all my scarves and saves me a ton of space!

Tutorial: Scarf or Belt Closet Hanger

Project estimate:

  • 2 wall hook racks, $2
  • Velvet hanger (2 pack), $1
  • Zip ties, on hand or $1
  • Scissors, on hand

Total: $3.00 and up

Tutorial: Scarf or Belt Closet Hanger

Tutorial: Scarf or Belt Closet Hanger

This will be the easiest craft you will ever make and will have the biggest impact on your organization in your closet.  All you have to do is place the velvet hanger between the two racks.  (I used a velvet one because they are thin and help to not make the project bulky.)  Using the zip ties, starting in the top corner on either side, secure the racks together around the hanger.  Tutorial: Scarf or Belt Closet Hanger

Continuing securing with zip ties on the top and bottom.  I used eight zip ties, four on top and four on the bottom.  You may use more or less depending on how much weight it will be holding.  Once you have placed all zip ties on, snip the long ends.

Tutorial: Scarf or Belt Closet Hanger

That’s it!  Your done!  Your closet will look organized and everything will be within reach.

I’m very much an outdoorsy kind of girl, so I find a lot of appeal in crafts using items from nature.  So as you can imagine, when I saw this rustic, woodsy clothes hanger by Maize of The Maize Hutton Blog, it was love at first sight.  They’re so easy to make, and they would be a really cute way to present a gifted garment or photograph clothing items for an Etsy or Artfire shop.   They would also make a great addition to the guest bedroom in a log cabin or hunting lodge type of decor.  Or just make them because they are awesome!  [how to make woodsy clothes hangers]

Project estimate:

  • Branch, on hand
  • Wire hanger, on hand or $1
  • Wire cutters, on hand
  • Drill, on hand
  • Glue, on hand

Someday when I design and build my own home, I’m going to put a closet in every room.  I’m a firm believer that there is no such thing as too much closet space!  Unfortunately, most places I’ve lived over the years were designed by people who apparently didn’t share my gusto for storage.  I’m always on the lookout for creative solutions to maximize closet space, like these nifty flip-flop hangers by Jen at Epbot.  Brilliant!  Just think what you can do with all the space you’ll free up on your shoe rack!  [how to make flip-flop hangers]

I love wooden pants hangers (I use them as display hangers in my living room, and I even made personalized ones for my kids’ art), and I especially love this idea from Little Family in the Big City – using a hanger on the bottom of the art to keep it hanging straight and true. Oh, and it’s Mod Podged with cute paper, too! This is such a cheap and pretty way to display art. Get pants hangers at your local big-box store or IKEA for less than a buck apiece. [how to make podged art hangers] [via my bff amy]

Project Estimate:

  • 2 pants hangers, $2
  • Scrapbooking paper, on hand
  • Mod Podge, on hand
  • A poster, on hand

Total: $2

I love old wooden hangers, so I took a vintage wooden pants hanger and made it into a custom gallery hanger. I added my son’s name so I can use it to display his artwork. Vintage hangers make an interesting display device, whether they’re labeled or not. You can hang up prints you find at the flea market, old book pages, or whatever you want to display, and switching art takes about ten seconds. So, when my son creates a new work of art, I’ll be able to display it right away!

I used the Silhouette cutter to cut a custom vinyl sticker with my son’s name on it, but if you don’t have a cutting machine, you can paint a label with acrylic craft paint, decoupage, or use letter stickers (found in the scrapbooking section). I think typewriter key stickers would be really cool! If you don’t have children, leave the hanger blank, or label it with another clever (or obvious) label. How about “art” or “inspiration”? Or, if you don’t like the pants hanger display idea, how about just personalizing or monogramming some hangers as a gift? This could be the answer to the question of what to get HIM for the next big holiday. (You know who I mean! That hard to shop for guy on your list.)

Project Estimate:

  • Pants hanger, $1 or less
  • A bit of vinyl + craft cutter, or acrylic craft paint, or stickers, $.50 and up

Total: $1 and up

Sourcing vintage hangers: I got mine on eBay, but you can also just splash out for a package of new wooden hangers – they look great, too. If you’re stuck on the vintage thing, just antique and distress them a little. You can find wooden hangers in just about any store with an organizational section (including the big blue discount store!) Oh, and don’t stop at the pants hangers – regular wooden coat hangers are great for displaying textiles like small quilts, lace, or other decorative foldable items. They’d make super cool bathroom towel bars.

When Amy from Crafty Lil Devil couldn’t find a mobile she liked for her soon-to-be-born baby’s room, she went shopping online. She found one she liked available at The Modern Baby Company for $48. Since that mobile broke Amy’s budget, she decided to get crafty and make her own. Some foam, monofilament wire, and a bent wire hanger later, Amy emerged with her own modern mobile at a fraction of the price. [project here]

You can get packages of plain craft foam at the dollar store (I think it’s about 6-8 sheets per pack), or choose your individual foam colors at a craft store for about $1 a sheet. You can pick up fishing line at the dollar store, and I’m sure you’ve got a spare hanger in your coat closet.

Project Estimate:

  • Craft foam, $1
  • Fishing line, $1 or on hand
  • Wire hanger, on hand

Total: $1 and up

For a savings of $47!
