Give new life to a pair of boring slippers with a fun and funky pinata makeover! Amy at Cozy Reverie used a pair of dollar store slippers and a little felt for a fun and funky touch for her Pinata Day outfit – but if you are a pinata lover, you don’t need a special occasion to wear them! They’re also great for wearing to pinata-themed parties, or even just around the house for fun! [how to make pinata slippers]

Tutorial: Shark Flip-Flops from DollarStoreCrafts.com

While shopping at Dollar Tree for my Crafty Shark Week projects, I saw these stuffed animal sharks and decided that I really needed to make them into funny flip-flops. I think “flip-flops” is my Shark theme this year (see my flip-flop wreath and my flip-flop shark sculpture!). This is a quick and easy craft that you can make using stuff from the dollar store. Not a shark fan? Use any stuffed animal to create funny, furry flip-flops!

Project Materials:

  • A pair of flip-flops, $1
  • 2 stuffed toys, $2
  • Needle and thread, on hand

Total: $3

Well, the instructions are pretty simple…

1. Place a shark on top of a flip-flop, and attach by sewing around each strap, and into the shark.

I did a few quick stitches to get the shark placed correctly on the flip-flops, then went back over my first stitches to reinforce.

Don’t sew the shark all the way to the bottom of the straps. Leave at least 2-3″ on each strap for the foot to slide in comfortably.

The sharks can just sit right up on top of your foot!

Kind of like summer slippers! My son wore these to the grocery store and caught the attention of some little girls who thought the flip-flops were cute.

And I bet they dry your feet off when you get out of the pool!

There are lots of great ways to keep your feet warm inside: Socks, warm puppies, blankets, snuggies. If you need something more portable than a warm puppy and socks just aren’t cutting it, take the lead from Kat of We Can Re-Do It. Craftster user demekah made these shoes completely from scratch using stuff she got at the dollar store. The soles are made from craft foam, and the uppers are made from dish towels. The “button” is a poker chip!

I have been meaning to try to make slippers or shoes out of stuff from the dollar store, but this project just knocks my socks off (ha ha!). I am not nearly as detail oriented as demekah appears to be, so anything I make would pale in comparison to these! (But don’t worry, that probably won’t stop me from trying! I have to keep supplying you with content somehow!) Woo hoo, I used like three cliches in this paragraph! And oh, the exclamation points!

You have to check out the Craftster thread to see how she made them – she gives a pretty detailed account of how to make shoes. Awesome! I love these.

Project Estimate:

  • Two packs of craft foam, $2
  • Two dish towels, $2
  • Shoe insoles, $1
  • Velcro, on hand or $1
  • Hot glue, on hand

Total: $5 or so
