Two cheap fall leaves crafts - these are clever! I love dollar store crafts!

Fall leaves are my favorite decoration! I love fall, so I came up with two inexpensive craft ideas using fall leaves (or faux fall leaves) for the Live.Craft.Love blog — you can use some dollar store materials to make these cute crafts: a paper plate fall leaf wreath, and a mason jar lamp.

You can find sparkly leaf shapes, paper plates, mason jar lamp adapter kit, and the rest of the supplies needed either at your local dollar store or in your local craft store.

Tutorial: Lego Head Night Light https://dollarstorecrafts.com/2015/01/make-a-lego-head-night-light/ Mon, 26 Jan 2015 16:00:55 +0000 http://dollarstorecrafts.com/?p=34913 My kids are wild about Legos, like many kids (and adults!) When I spied this large mason jar at the thrift store, I thought it would make for a fun lamp. My son commented that it looked like a Lego head, and this idea was born. While I used a large jar, you could easily recreate this on a smaller scale with a mason jar from Dollar Tree or one you have in your craft stash.

Lego Head Night Light - I have to try this!

My kids are wild about Legos, like many kids (and adults!)  When I spied this large mason jar at the thrift store, I thought it would make for a fun lamp.  My son commented that it looked like a Lego head, and this idea was born. While I used a large jar, you could easily recreate this on a smaller scale with a mason jar from Dollar Tree or one you have in your craft stash.

lego lamp DIY

Project estimate:

  • Mason jar, on hand
  • Paint, on hand
  • Clear labels, on hand
  • Push light, $1

Total: $1

step 1

Step one:  Paint the inside of the jar and the lid yellow.

lego

Step two:  Print the faces onto clear labels.  I used these labels from OnlineLabels.com and formatted my printable to fit that size.  Adhere the label face to the jar.  I put a different face on two sides, just for variety!

step 3

Step three:  I used a push light from Dollar Tree that has an adhesive sticker already on it.  Just peel off the backing and stick the push light under the lid of the jar.

DIY lego lamp

I don’t screw the lid on fully, just to make the push light easier to access.  Now you have a fun night light that makes cute room decor during the daytime!  This jar could also double as storage if you don’t need a light.  Another idea is to use a milk jug instead of a mason jar and turn it into a Valentine holder, similar to this Dollar Store Crafts project I shared recently.  Have fun building and crafting!

Father's Day Mason Jar Plant gift with printable - DollarStoreCrafts.com

Moms often receive flowers for mother’s day, but who’s to say dad wouldn’t enjoy a plant for father’s day?  My husband enjoys cooking and using fresh herbs, so I thought it would be fun to make him a father’s day gift that could live on the counter, look good, and still be useful.  I went with mint because of the lovely smell and the fact that it can do well in a container, so I themed the free printable tag to match the plant.

Project estimate:

  • Mason Jar, on hand or $1
  • Twine, on hand or $1
  • Rocks, on hand or $1
  • Mint Plant, $2.50
  • Printable, free

Total:  $2.50 and up

Step one:  Fill the bottom third of the jar with rocks.  I used a bag of river rock purchased at Dollar Tree.

Step two:  Add potting soil, if needed, and then the mint plant.

Step three:  Wrap the lip of the jar with twine.  I found three rolls for $1 at DT.

Step four:  Print out the free printable (reduce or enlarge it to the desired size), trim the tag, and use twine to tie it to the jar.  (Download the full-size image here.)

Now dad has a lovely mint plant he can keep close by when he makes his mojitos!  This would also make a great teacher present or housewarming gift for a new neighbor.  You could easily replace the mint plant with any other herb or plant that does well in a container.  Going green with your gift giving is always appreciated.

DIY Mason Jar Flower Frog

The first time I ever heard the term “flower frog” I had no idea what it meant.  As it turns out, a flower frog is a secret trick of the floral arranging trade!  It’s a little disc with holes in it that assists you by holding the flowers in place, allowing you to easily make fuller, prettier bouquets.  There are companies that make flower frogs you can buy to fit onto the tops of mason jars, but DIY Maven figured out a simple way to make her own using recycled materials instead.  Why pay money for something that you can make yourself for free?  [how to make a DIY mason jar flower frog]

  • Mason jar, on hand or $1
  • Plastic lid, on hand
  • Hole punch, on hand
