DIY Christmas Candy "Ornament" Wreath

I love the look of vintage glass ornament wreaths, but they are crazy expensive! Buy one for about $200, or source the ornaments and make it yourself. Either way, it’s not gonna be cheap! When I shared a photo of an ornament wreath I loved, my mom said “You could almost make that out of those little Christmas chocolates,” and a lightbulb went off in my head! I loved the idea, so I headed to the dollar store to check out the Christmas candy selection. There were lots of pretty foil-wrapped candies, so I grabbed a few bucks worth of supplies and made my wreath. Find out how to make it in my column at eBay: [how to make a christmas candy wreath]

Project Materials:

  • 3 paper plates, $1 or on hand
  • 1 or 2 metallic tinsel garlands, $1 or $2
  • 5-7 bags of foil-wrapped Christmas chocolate candies, $5-7
  • Ribbon or baker’s twine, on hand or $1

Total cost: $7 and up

Make a Yarn Pom Pom Wreath

Well folks, after many years for resisting the urge to buy every beautiful skein in sight and many, many crocheted Christmas presents, I have finally brought my yarn collection down to reasonable levels.  I think it’s now safe to say I have taken it down a notch, going from “horde” to “stash”.  This, of course, means that I can think about buying new yarn now, right?  (Insert maniacal giggle here.)  And ever since I saw this yarn pom pom wreath by Jessica at Mad in Crafts, I’ve been thinking about snagging a few skeins of white.  I love its fluffy, cozy, wintery look; you could leave this hanging up all the way through spring!  [how to make a yarn pom pom wreath]

Project estimate:

  • Wreath form, $1 and up
  • Yarn, on hand or $1 and up
  • Floral pins, $1 and up
  • Glue, on hand

Total: $1 and up

There are approximately 67,342,948 ways to make a wreath out of stuff from the dollar store.  Here is one more to add to the list: a sparkly tinsel wreath from Like a Saturday!  It fits right into her vintage-inspired holiday decor, especially since she incorporated some ornaments and floral bits from the seasonal section of the dollar store that have a very retro feel.  Of course, you could change up the embellishments to make this wreath fit whatever theme you use for your Christmas decorations!  [how to make a tinsel wreath]

Make a Wrapping Paper Wreath

It seems like every year I end up buying more wrapping paper than I actually use.  And every year, even though I always have some left from last year, I still find myself buying more.  What can I say?  I am unable to resist pretty patterned papers of any kind, especially when they are cheap!  So what can you do with all of that extra wrapping paper?  Centsational Girl used some to make a cute wreath!  This project is delicate by nature so you will want to hang it out of reach of small children and pets, or you could try reinforcing it a bit by spraying it with a few coats of clear spray paint.  Either way, it’s as easy as it is adorable!  [how to make a wrapping paper wreath]

Project estimate:

  • Wrapping paper, on hand or $1
  • Wreath form, $1 and up
  • Ribbon, on hand or $1 and up

Total:  $1 and up
