Primitive}, about $8.50 and up<\/li>\n<li>Foam brushes, on hand or $1<\/li>\n<li>Painters tape, on hand<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Total: about $9.50 and up<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-31549\" alt=\"dollar store flower pot makeover\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Chalky-Finish-Clay-Pots-2-580x386.jpg\" width=\"580\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I lucked out, the clay pots I purchased had the clear film decal on the front. \u00a0Most of it just peeled right off, although if you find a pot that has a sheen or something similar you could lightly sand it to prep the area for the paint. \u00a0Otherwise the chalky finish paint should adhere great.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-31550\" alt=\"Dollar store flower pot makeover\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Chalky-Finish-Clay-Pots-3-580x386.jpg\" width=\"580\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-31551\" alt=\"dollar store flower pot makeover\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Chalky-Finish-Clay-Pots-6-580x386.jpg\" width=\"580\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once my pots were clean and ready I painted the edges with some black paint. \u00a0I only did this because I knew I was going to distress them. \u00a0This step is optional.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-31552\" alt=\"chalky finish clay pots tutorial\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Chalky-Finish-Clay-Pots-7-580x386.jpg\" width=\"580\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I then painted my entire pot with my chalky finish paint and foam brush. \u00a0On my striped pot I did &#8220;everlasting&#8221; first, on my polka dot pots I did the &#8220;primitive&#8221; chalky finish paint first. \u00a0You will need to do 2-3 light coats depending on the type of pot you use.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-large wp-image-31553\" alt=\"dollar store flower pot makeover\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/Chalky-Finish-Clay-Pots-8-580x386.jpg\" width=\"580\" height=\"386\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once dry I applied my painters tape for some stripes. \u00a0I also cut some vinyl circles with my cutting machine, you could also use painters tape and a round 1&#8243;
