You can watch it right  here or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/user\/dollarcraft\">subscribe to my YouTube channel <\/a>and  get instant updates whenever I post new videos.<\/p>\n<p>You can find out more about how the birthday party turned out here: <a href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/?p=8165\">&#8220;Smiling&#8217;s My Favorite&#8221; Birthday Party<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In case you&#8217;re not such a fan of watching videos, here are the highlights:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/streamers.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8142\" title=\"streamers\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/streamers-300x163.jpg\" alt=\"streamers\" width=\"300\" height=\"163\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Streamers are a <a href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/2010\/07\/fabulous-sweet-shoppe-party-and-tips-for-cheap-party-planning\/4\/\">must-have frugal party supply<\/a>, so I got them in my party colors: green, yellow, and blue.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/paperlanterns.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8137\" title=\"paper lanterns\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/paperlanterns-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"paper lanterns 2 for $1\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I got paper lanterns to hang up instead of balloons that fit in my color scheme.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/popcornbuckets.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8139\" title=\"popcorn buckets\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/popcornbuckets-300x202.jpg\" alt=\"popcorn buckets\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/popcornbuckets-300x202.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/popcornbuckets.jpg 564w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I got shiny blue popcorn buckets with the idea that I could use them to hold food and other treats at the party.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/punchballs.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8140\" title=\"punch balloons\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/punchballs-300x212.jpg\" alt=\"punch balloons\" width=\"300\" height=\"212\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/punchballs-300x212.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/punchballs.jpg 523w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I decided to skip typical balloons altogether this year, so I got the lanterns and these punch balls. They&#8217;re yellow, and they have smiles on them (even though I was definitely NOT going to do a lot of smiley face things for the party decor). The punch balls were the best part of the party! I blew up about 14 of them (they&#8217;re much bigger than regular party balloons) and just put them out on the floor, and my boys played with them for about an hour. And, it&#8217;s been almost a month since the party, and we still have most of them and they get played with regularly.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/sillyhats.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8141\" title=\"silly hats\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/sillyhats-300x166.jpg\" alt=\"silly hats - tom sawyer\" width=\"300\" height=\"166\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/sillyhats-300x166.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/sillyhats-580x322.jpg 580w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/sillyhats.jpg 683w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of my activity ideas for the &#8220;smiling&#8217;s my favorite&#8221; theme was to have a photo station where people could wear funny hats and get their picture taken. I bought several types of funny hats at the dollar store, including these Tom Sawyer straw hats. Other hats I picked up in this trip: a firefighter hat, knight helmets. I also got a few funny hats and a clown wig at Target&#8217;s dollar spot (I think they were $2.50 each, though).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/streamers.jpg\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/paperplates.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-8138\" title=\"paper plates\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/paperplates-300x181.jpg\" alt=\"paper plates - dollar store staple\" width=\"300\" height=\"181\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The dollar store&#8217;s also a great place to get basic party supplies like paper plates (these weren&#8217;t for the party), plastic tablecloths, napkins, paper cups, and utensils.<\/p>\n<p>Check out how the party turned out: <a href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/?p=8165\">Smiling&#8217;s My Favorite<\/a> Party<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My youngest son just turned 1, and I got most of my birthday party decorations and supplies at the dollar store (and the rest at the dollar spot at Target).
