where I live it is just plain dark, dreary\u00a0and cold!\u00a0\u00a0 So, at the beginning of the year I like to take\u00a0a little time to freshen things up around my home.\u00a0 Today I will share how I made these cute pin cushions to sweeten up my sewing area &#8212; with just a few supplies you probably mostly have on hand!<\/p>\n<p>Also, is it too soon to be thinking about Valentine&#8217;s Day?\u00a0 Because I certainly am!\u00a0 It is one of my favorite holidays &#8212; just for the cuteness factor &#8212; and a great excuse to make and give cute red and pink things for my sisters and friends!\u00a0 Wouldn&#8217;t one of these pin cushions be a perfect Valentine goodie for\u00a0a friend who sews?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Project Estimate:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>plastic ramekins, 3\/$1<\/li>\n<li>fleece scraps, on hand (don&#8217;t substitute felt &#8212; you&#8217;ll be disappointed!)<\/li>\n<li>polyester fiberfill, on hand<\/li>\n<li>needle and thread<\/li>\n<li>drill (optional)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Total:\u00a0 $0.33!<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-9581\" href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/2011\/01\/cupcake-pin-cushions\/1ramekins\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9581\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/1ramekins.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/1ramekins.jpg 600w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/1ramekins-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/1ramekins-580x387.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>I found these adorable &#8220;ramekin sauce cups&#8221; at my local dollar store, and instantly knew what they were destined to be.\u00a0 They look just like cupcake papers!\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9582\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/2plate.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/2plate.jpg 600w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/2plate-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/2plate-580x387.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/>Start by cutting a circle from whatever color fleece you want your frosting to be.\u00a0 I chose pink, of course!\u00a0 My circle was 8 1\/2&#8243; in diameter.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s a trick &#8212; use a plate (or other round container) as your pattern.\u00a0 If you press it onto your fleece&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-9583\" href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/2011\/01\/cupcake-pin-cushions\/3cutline\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9583\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/3cutline.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/3cutline.jpg 600w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/3cutline-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/3cutline-580x387.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>&#8230;you&#8217;ll have a perfect circle imprinted on the fleece, which you can very carefully cut around.\u00a0 Nothing to trace, nothing to pin!<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-9584\" href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/2011\/01\/cupcake-pin-cushions\/4stitch\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9584\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/4stitch.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/4stitch.jpg 600w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/4stitch-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/4stitch-580x387.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>Take a needle and thread and knot the two ends of the thread together.\u00a0 Stab your needle up and down 1\/4&#8243; I am not super skilled with power tools!\u00a0 I should have started with a smaller bit, then made the holes bigger with a larger bit.\u00a0 But, as it is, I used too large a bit and cracked my ramekin.\u00a0 No problem, though!<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-9587\" href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/2011\/01\/cupcake-pin-cushions\/7button\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9587\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/7button.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/7button.jpg 600w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/7button-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/7button-580x387.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>I used a small, flat button on the bottom to compensate.\u00a0 No big deal!<\/p>\n<p><a rel=\"attachment wp-att-9588\" href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/2011\/01\/cupcake-pin-cushions\/8sew\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-9588\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/8sew.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/8sew.jpg 600w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/8sew-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/8sew-580x387.jpg 580w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a>Pick up your same needle, and sew down through your ramekin, then back up into the edge of your cupcake top.\u00a0 You can leave your thread loose until you have three or four passes through, then pull your thread tight and tie a firm knot.<br \/>\n<a rel=\"attachment wp-att-9591\" href=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/2011\/01\/cupcake-pin-cushions\/mini-cupcake-pincushion-ring\/\"><\/a><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/9cherry.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><br \/>\nUse the same technique to create your cherry from some red fleece (I started with a\u00a0circle was 2 1\/2&#8243; in diameter) and attach it to the top.\u00a0 You&#8217;re done!\u00a0 If you like you can embroider some sprinkles, too.\u00a0 I couldn&#8217;t decide whether I wanted them, so I left them off.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>I am sure there are numerous other ways you could dress these guys up!\u00a0 How would you embellish them?<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/dollarstorecrafts.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/mini-cupcake-pincushion-ring.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"600\" \/><br \/>\nBeing a lover of all things tiny, I couldn&#8217;t pass up the opportunity to make a mini version &#8212;
